Our Story

Good Boy George is the passion project of Weixang Tan, musician, educator, and senior associate music director of the Jazz Association in Singapore. He and his wife, Merlin, who live in Robertson Quay with their daughter and dog, have long dreamt of a place that blended their love of art, culture, and community… not to mention good food, good drinks, and a very good boy named George.

Drawing inspiration from the laid-back yet vibrant café scenes of Europe and Australia, Wei and Merlin envisioned a bistro that draws a crowd from dawn til dusk, a cafe-restaurant where you’re guaranteed impeccable coffee, delicious, hearty, unfussy meals, and quality, low-cost drinks - in order words: something to satisfy all tastes.

Because: Good Boy George caters as much to the early-risers as it does the day-drinkers and the night owls. Perhaps, like most of us, you’re a little of all three - in which case, make yourself comfortable, as day turns to night, and Good Boy George turns to Bad Boy George… For when the sun sets, our neon sign playfully marks the transformation from day to night, prompting you to get in another round.

Launching Good Boy George was a challenge and a thrill. From the outset, Wei and Merlin knew this was a community project, and as such, everything from our coffee, to the art on our walls (courtesy of Arterly Obsessed) is created by local specialists.

Therefore, you are cordially invited to join us at our little place on the corner. A place to relax, enjoy good food and drinks, and tap your foot as the world walks by.

And, if you’re lucky, maybe the boy himself will be there.
